The next step in waterproofing your window is to install the j channel.
Installing vinyl j channel around windows.
Position the j channel under the window.
Hammer in roofing nails approximately every 8 inches at the middle of the nailing slots.
Through the middle of the slots.
Don t drive them tight.
Cut and position an undersill trim if necessary see when to use undersill trim.

If necessary bend the siding to fit into place.
For the window first position the j channel against the window casing.
To install vinyl siding to the soffit and fascia area on your home nail lengths of j channel along the inner edge of the fascia leaving the nail heads out about 1 32 to 1 16 of an inch.
Nail it to the wall but remember not to nail it tightly.
J channel pieces should be installed similarly to the f channel across from each other so the soffit fits between the lengths of the j channel.
Nail loosely enough so that the j molding slides.
This gives it a clean professional look.
Next measure and cut the siding to fit the measurements of your soffit and push each panel into the j channel.
Cut a tab in the bottom of the side j channels and fold under.
Cut and install top j flush with the outer face of the side j s.
You can use roofing nails that are made of galvanized aluminum or stainless steel with high user ratings and good resistance to corrosion.
This goes all around the window and you ll need new strips.
Do not forget to extend the side j channel above the top of the window frame make it at least 1 inch above the top of the window.
Install the j channel vinyl siding around all four sides of a window or three sides of a door.
Drive roofing nails every 8 to 10 in.

The vinyl siding trim pieces should slide back and forth slightly.
Place the side j channel and mark it then mark the bottom j channel.
Cut and install bottom j flush with the sides of the window casing.
Install side j channels flush with the lower face of the bottom j channel and with the top of the window casing.
